REPORT :
Vale of Towy held their first trial of 2025 in a venue in Pen y Banc in llandeilo which had remained dormant for 16 years, with landowner rider Alun Hemmings getting the digger out and persuading adjacent farmer Richard to allow access to his land as well VOT are glad to use it for the best sport in the world.
Section plotters marked out a very challenging route all round and scores reflect this, but only dodgy bit on section one was removed after the first lap blame falling on a certain E Davies for not wearing his specs.
Only 2 experts were present with a real mixture of both talents making wildly different approach to the sections, Iwan Davies finally getting the better of Wayne Jones 29 to 49 marks .
Iwan also had the extreme embarrassment of having happy birthday sung to him at the beginning , his red face was a picture, 18 years old.
Julian Collins must have had his Weetabix and devoid of shepherding Scarlett put a cracking display finishing on 19 , his determination on the bitch section 5 and 6 losing a paltry 4 marks made a huge difference , pushing Dean Kenniford to second place. The clubman route was very tough and some high scores were the order of the day, a lesson for future events there , the wet stuff did not dry out at all. And remained very slippery as most of the scores can be seen.
Kieran Jones has a belting hangover but just eased out Gavin Richards by most cleans on 34 marks, Followed by Lyn Davies on 41.
Sportsman masters scores were quite low except for the second sub which added double figures to scores and same for the nadgery section 6 which also propelled the scores upwards. Andrew Holvern from Wye Valley club won his class on 24;
Sportsmen were headed up by landowner Alun Hemmings who must by his local knowledge been planning his route for a while finishing on 23 followed by Andrew Lewis on 26.
The number of veteran riders is increasing which is a great to see and they ride the sportsman route which makes life easier for course setters, as usual the ding dong battle with the top 3 is raging , But maestro Dave Williams out on his Beta 200 keeping 5 marks ahead of Martin Singleton also out on his new Factory Beta at bay by 5 marks, Ian Davies the third musketeer on 25 after taking a swim.
